The founding gifts
At the December 6, 1876 meeting, Henry A. DeLand pledged:
- $400 plus an acre of land for a schoolhouse
- A matching gift to the first congregation to build a church
- A one-mile strip of land running north–south through the center of the area, to be the main street — Woodland Boulevard
That evening, those in attendance voted to rename the community DeLand.
